Dear Viscount Shibuzawa :
　　Your most gracious and kind cablegram regarding the gift on behalf of the North American Young Men's Christian Associations reached me a few days ago in the midst of the sessions of the meeting of the World's Student Christian Federation at Mysore, where we were the guests of His Highness the Maharaja. I improve this first opportunity to acknowledge the receipt of your message, and to thank you for it from a full heart. I have esteemed it, as I always do, a high privilege and honor to collaborate in any way in my power with the furtherance of plans in which you personally are interested, and in which you believe.
　　I have been much thrilled by reports which have been reaching me from various sources regarding the wonderful observance in connection with the Imperial Enthronement.

拝啓、益御清適奉賀候、然ば東京市基督教青年会に対する北米基督教青年会寄附金に関し、数日前御懇篤なる電報を賜はり、衷心より厚く御礼申上候、当時小生等はマイソル市に開催せられたる世界学生基督教同盟の会議に参列せんが為め、マハラヤ王殿下の賓客として同市に滞在罷在候、閣下が親しく興味を抱かれ且つ重きを置かるゝ国際的事業進捗の為め、微力ながら御協力申上ぐる事を得るは、小生の一大特権とし、且つ名誉として常に誇り得る所に有之候
御即位の御大礼に関して各方面より聴取せる報道に接し、感激の至りに有之候

　訳者註＝本文掲載の寄附金額は五万弗にて、御大礼記念の意味に於て送附越されしものなる由に御座候、由つて東京基督教青年会の斎藤主事は、阪谷男爵と協議の上、渋沢子爵を始め後藤子爵及び同男爵の御名義を以て、感謝の電報をモツト博士へ発せられしとの事に有之候、此書面は即ち右電報に対する感謝状に有之候
