Dear Sir :
　　I am sorry there has been some delay in replying to your letter of November 15th last to Mr. Wallace M. Alexander, but it was necessary to go into some old records at the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce to obtain the information you requested. Answering your letter in the order suggested by you :
　1. The Japanese Relations Committee of California was formed and began to function as a committee in 1917, although there was a former committee of citizens of San Francisco without definite title as early as 1915. Presumably this committee was formed with the general idea of welcoming Japanese visitors to the Panama Pacific International Exposition which was held in San Francisco that year.
　2. The members of the Japanese Relations Committee of California, formed in 1917, largely from members of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce was composed of the following gentlemen :

　　　To promote friendly relations between the peoples of the United States and of Japan and to diffuse among the American people a more accurate knowledge of the people of Japan, their ideals, arts, sciences, industries and economic conditions.
　　　If this office can be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to call upon us. In the meantime, Mr. Alexander sends his warmest regards.
