My dear Viscount Shibusawa :
　　I was greatly pleased this monring to have Mr. Ohtsu and his friend, Mr. Takita call on me. They found us in the midst of a strike and unable to show them the mechanical part of the paper, as I should like to have done. I hope he will be able to call again later. Incidentally, we were greatly relieved to hear of your safety. I am proud of the way the United States has responded to the needs of Japan in its great extremity and I think a further and wide step has been taken in the matter of smoothing out international relationships. It is a pity that human sacrifice was required to bring this about.

拝啓
今朝大津氏及氏の友人滝田氏の御来訪を受け殊に喜敷存候、然る処御来訪の節は折柄ストライキ中なりし為め、予期の通り新聞社の機械部を御案内致兼ね候、後日再び御来訪の期あらん事を待入り候
今回の大震災に際し閣下には御無事なりし由を承知致し、大いに安心致候、時局に際し米国が日本の必要に応じて機宜の処置を取りしを大いに誇りとするものに御座候、之により両国の親善が一層増進せられたる事明白に御座候、去乍ら人命を賭したるものありて始めて今回の如き好結果を得たるは残念に存候
閣下に対して重ねて敬意を奉表候　敬具
