My dear Mr. MacVeagh :
　　I have had the honor of receiving an announcement of the marriage of Mr. Francis Wayne MacVeagh, your son, to Miss Ellen Warder Thoron Leonard.
　　As the announcement was made in the name of the mother of the bride, it might have been proper for me to directly send her this my note of felicitation, but, being a stranger to her, I thought it best to congratulate the young couple upon their happy event through you whom I can claim as one of my close American friends.
