celebration that has taken place in Tokyo on the occasion of your eighty-eighth birthday. May I avail myself of this opportunity to extend to you my very sincere congratulations upon this event and wish you a very long and happy life, to which you are deservedly entitled because of your record of publick service, unselfish devotion to bettering international understandings, and successful accomplishments in modernizing the business and banking activities of feudal Japan.
　　The festivities surrounding the celebrations in your honor must have been most impressive indeed. I read of them in the Japan Advertiser with keen interest. The remarks of Dr. Takuma Dan that your life can be characterized by few words, namely, absolute sincerity and public service, naturally appeal to all your friends throughout various portions of the world. Always living a useful and helpful life, you have seen Japan grow into one of the most powerful and influential nations in history. In all this development you have played a very vital part, and your influence has always been for good. Thus it is the hope and devout wish of all who know you that your life may be continued for a long period, so that humanity may have the benefit of your good works and the consummation of your high ideals.

拝啓　益御清適奉賀候、然ば東京に於て閣下の米寿祝賀会盛大に催され候由、阪谷男爵より拝承致し欣喜罷在候、此機会に於て衷心より御慶祝申上げ、且つ幾千代かけて従来の幸福なる御生活を持続被遊候様奉祈候、公共的奉仕、国際的親善促進に対する無我の尽瘁及び封建時代の商業及び銀行業を立派に近代化せる功績等の記録を有する閣下は天与の福祉を当然享くべき方と存候
閣下の祝賀に関する饗宴は実に最も印象深きものありし事と奉察候、大なる興味を以てジヤパン・アドヴアタイザー紙の記事を閲読仕候、閣下の御生涯の特徴は「至誠奉公ノ四字ヲ以テ尽スコトヲ得ンカ」と言はれたる団琢磨博士の評は、世界各地を通じて閣下の御知友の当然共鳴する処に有之候
