Dear Mr. Batki,
　　Please accept my deep gratitude for your kind sympathy concerning the great earthquake. My Asukayama home escaped destruction, although several parts of the house were damaged. My office of Kabuto-cho was torn to pieces and later burnt down. I was present in the office at the time when the earthquake took place, but fortunately sustained no harm whatever and ever since the 2nd day of the month, I have been striving to help relieve sufferers in cooperation with others. You will be also pleased to hear that all the members of my family are safe.

My dear Marquis 《(Viscount)》 Shibusawa,
　　On coming to hear of the appalling disaster that has befallen your country I had telegraphed to you, enquiring about the safety of yourself and the members of your family and I was feeling very anxious at not having any news from you. My anxiety has now been much relieved to learn from your letter to Mr. Batki of my Osaka Office that yourself and all the members of your family are quite safe. I am very sorry to know that your Office at Kabuto Cho has been burnt down, but it is a matter of much gratification that you sustained no harm.
　　The Tata Iron & Steel Co.. Ltd. has addressed a letter to you in the matter of Suzuki & Co. to which I have to request your kind attention. I shall feel very grateful to you if this matter is settled once for all.

先般可恐大震災貴国に勃発するや、小生は閣下を始め御家族様の御安否を憂ひ直ちに御見舞の電報差上候処、御返事に相接せず深く憂慮罷在候、然る処当方大阪支店のバトカイ氏宛の貴翰により、閣下並に御家族様の御無事の由を承知致し大いに安堵仕候、兜町の貴事務所の全焼せるは真に御気毒に候得共、閣下が微傷だも負はせられざりしは慶賀に不堪処に御座候
予而御配慮相煩し居る鈴木商店との係争問題に就而、何卒可然御尽力
